Agreed. Granted I just read the Reverse Centaur book, so I’m still coming off that skeptical viewpoint but it’s hard not to see this as hype. But I will always respect someone for doing what they think is right.

lol, I was just thinking that. The assmbly makerspace is probably closest I know of to something like this.

This sounds a lot like a project I’ve started a few times and never made it far with. I called it woodlang. It was the idea of CAD but rather than designing the shape and figuring how to make it that shape, you specify a series of shop operations like blender geometry nodes.

This was all pre AI. Super impressive that you’ve made something awesome. I’ll try it out tonight

Many humans would struggle with this even with very good tooling (ie not writing raw svg and using illustrator). I struggle to draw a bicycle accurately. But yes, I suspect it will be diminishing returns and I doubt it will ever be perfect due to the average nature of AI but I’d like to be wrong.

But no ones hire random humans for things like this. You go and hire a vector artist and they will get your a very good pelican on a a bike. That's how you get things done when you can't do it.

Yeah, but then, you recruit the artist for $XXX - whereas you "recruit" your LLM for $0.XXX for the same task.

Of course the quality difference is huge. But sometimes you don't need that level of quality.

Also, finding a vector artist takes days of communication, payment settlement, revisions, etc.

Not always the most practical solution.

This is what I’m working on right now. It lasts about 3 months on battery updating every minute, except every five at night. I’ve been meaning to switch to a word clock to make it last longer.

The market research I have seen indicated DRAM prices will not come back to “normal” until 2030 at least and probably 2031. You can wait, but it will probably be longer than a year
