The reason why services and devices can't be totally separated as gunpowders and paint is software. Apple's recent software qualities have been facing many challenges and varied user feedbacks, Apple Map, Siri, FinalCut update, New Photos, iCloud hack issues. I doubt their organization structure is the magic fix to their software issues, in fact, a complete separation between devices + services might make some of their software challenges even harder.
the author is just too sensitive in online discussions. One could simply dismiss your idea for being a nerd, gay, or sounds like a woman even if you are a guy. There is nothing that excludes a guy from the same snub behavior thrown by trolls. It is a community issue, not a man vs. woman issue. In fact, on the internet, you can't even be sure that it is a guy trolling a girl, but thinking makes it so.
Empathy is about seeing it both sides. It's not about everyone else making you feel welcome and comfortable.
Let's say FBI has those backdoors they want, how can they make sure that the terrorists won't take advantage of those backdoors? When they can just allow China to come in and steal U.S government worker's data like

so...concede defeat 'cause some engineers using the tech wrong or like the tech to be used certain? Who's to say how the web is supposed to be?
Some comments above mention about loading 100+ assets for a Phonegap app...why would you load 100+ remotely when you are building a phonegap app?
Every tech comes with a trade-off, at the level of dev-cost vs. runtime-efficiency. It also depends on what kind of existing code base and developer team you have to build the new product. A typical right or wrong clickbait like this one is not even worth the lengthy discussion bordering on random mass venting.
for micro vs. monolithic, why does it have to be versus decision? "I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail."
making anti-tesla looks like supporting everything that is wrong with establishment and patent system is exactly the kind of connection he wants people to make. Just another PR gimmick there.
If content providers only tailor their views toward reader sentiment, what you will end up with is a self-pleasing knowledge bubble in which you rule out anything that doesn't please you as non-existence. That's more of a social disease than the path to a better future.
Think there will be and need to be a place for traditional type of journalism with more materials based on critical thinking. It just may not need to be on print media anymore.
The aggregation of other people's content and shameless attention grab can only last so long and it doesn't build toward any credible production of original content. Its primary purpose is to kill boredom and create marketing buzz. Shitty content may appeal to more people these days, just like Bieber might sell more records but there will always be room for quality content and engaging dialogues in this world. The challenge is all about finding a new medium and tending the old flames in a new form.
