How much are your services? I'm an out-of-school adult that never really grasped math but hate that I don't know more about it to this day. Just wondering what kind of range I'd be looking in to just get some explanations or something. I don't currently have any specific questions though.

~150 AUD/hr for in-home

That's a fair bit above the regular rate though, you can get a decent tutor for less.

Have you tried Khan Academy? It lacks all the person interaction and customization of a private tutor but they have (IMHO) really good explanations and quite good problems to solve for all math through high school.

Love their resources, but having somebody to guide you to the resources that match your deficit is the real magic imo.

I love this. With the excessive use of dictionary words it's nice that there is now a way to search so that hopefully people will stop naming projects "Hydrogen" since there are 376 pages worth of results for it. lol

I always kind of wondered if something like this (the way the title describes it not the way it actually went) wasn't theoretically possible using similarities in writing styles. Like I have several different accounts on some social media sites and make posts and comments on each one for different purposes. But I suspect that, if they were each analyzed based on how things were worded and word frequency and a few other things, they could at least be assumed to be linked together.

Theoretically is the key word here :) Here is an article from yesterday: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17486376

If you look at the charts, their 3 techniques couldn't accurately disambiguate between two authors. If you like, whatever, use a lot of superfluous, unnecessary words, or whatever, you might get clustered into, like, the group of people who do that or whatever. But unless you have a really unique way of writing, I wouldn't worry too much.

IMO, after reading a bit on nlp, I think sensationalized headlines which the research doesnt live up to the headline are far too common. I suppose this might be science in general: http://phdcomics.com/comics/archive_print.php?comicid=1174

Exactly what I thought they did.

Are you actually e-40?

Are you asking me if I'm E-40 the rapper? What do you think the chances of that are?

Haha, I am. I think probably pretty low. But I thought maybe. I'm a programmer who does music as well so it could be! haha

Good. Sometimes people need to learn hard lessons. It's kind of nice to hear that she spent way too much money in the end. Hopefully her business takes off still but I get really tired of people asking for my advice and totally ignoring it.

'She don't know what she don't know'. I bet she thought/thinks she was getting a bargain.

If he wanted full control like he says he'd just setup an apache server on a linux system and build his own store front. He clearly wants some help somewhere between no control and full control and Shopify can get him 80% of the way there.

I mean... this mostly just feels like the originals were fed through some sort of vocoder... None of this is impressive at all to me. Translate orchestral output to hip hop or something and then I'll be impressed. At this point, you've fed one song in and output some kind of grainy sounding similar sound that is basically just triggering notes in a vocoder...

Yes it's definitely working on the note, envelope and timbre level as opposed to the production, mastering, soundscape, etc. level. But I think it's ok as a stepping stone. Something like this could still work as a backing layer for the original.

These kind of ever present comments are the HN equivalent of "2/10 would not bang"

I mean, to be fair, I probably wouldn't bang it.

But you get to experience their horrendous design! Isn't it great how the final paragraph is harder to read because the page removes the contrast? Or how, when you scroll a little too far, the old page disappears completely?

They don't even seem to change. It's all just like a small group of "influencers" posting the same shit constantly. This is why social media is slowly making itself irrelevant. I just wish we humans had the self control to stop doing it once we realized it's not adding value.

We humans do. I wish you humans luck.

I was using that as a general population. You can be as proud as you want but it doesn't stop the general population from letting these services walk all over us.

> There's very little else getting through to the News Feed anyway.

This. This whole "News Feed" idea, that the author touches on IG starting too, is just garbage. I want to see the most recent events first and scroll from there. You're not providing me any service by showing me random crap in any random order. All you're doing is giving yourself the ability to tailor what I see even more. Totally made Facebook worthless to me.

I used to scroll through it endlessly and since they started doing that shit I don't even bother anymore. I check notifications and close it, if I do anything.

I realized the same. My antidote was to remove the whole feed with uBlock Origin. Now Facebook is events and fallback messaging platform for me.

That's a really neat idea!
