What Amazon SES might lack in terms of fancy features, it probably makes up for in pricing and stability. We've been using it for over four years and haven't experienced a single problem in that time.
Not only is it dirt cheap, it's so easy to do everything right to maintain a good reputation. If you're using Route 53, it's one click to set up DKIM. It's also painless (and cheap) to handle bounce notifications programmatically.
I wonder how many of the people who chime in with "AWS is so expensive" every time AWS is discussed, use Mailgun or one of those other really expensive mail providers? Incidentally, have you had a problem with delivery to e.g. gmail, because there are several old articles that claim SES is blacklisted?
