I think the disparity is that, for most organizations, Standup isn't "talking to your team to ensure that you know what others are working and and they know what you are working on", but instead "A person gives vague generalizations about a story/ticket number, the rest of the team pretends to listen."

And yes, sure, that is objectively not the point of the meeting and blaming the meeting for people misbehaving isn't right. But it's a cowpath argument to me. If the meeting is in service of a team and their collaboration, collaborate in the ways the team finds most meaningful. Do not force a team to pretend to be collaborating.
