Not sure if I agree with the notion that people have become more boring.

There always have been what the author calls 'social predators', try coming out as gay even as recently as two or three decades ago and you'd be hounded for it. Or even something banal as being atheist was controversial, still is even today in many places. But overall it seems like we've become more tolerant, not less of different ways of living.

It's not even that long ago that it was normal to think that D&D, videogames and Marilyn Manson's music are the devil's work. When the author says we treat to many things as sacred now I don't really see it. People seem to have already forgotten what kind of silly social stigmas existed not that long ago.
