Cool, maybe they can fix emergency calling sometime in that seven year window? https://www.androidauthority.com/psa-google-pixel-911-emerge...

FTFA:

> The issue was traced to Microsoft Teams

I want to know how a crappy app from Microsoft can break the dialer on my phone. What the hell?

The recent issue (from the last two years) does not appear to be Teams-related. The Teams thing was from the first wave of emergency call failures, which was traced to a bad interaction between Teams and the Android dialer.

Seems the newer issue would be dialer related as well then.

I have several apps with their own dialers on my phone... I just never realized they could break the system dialer in such a way.

Any app can register as a call app. Which Teams does since it supports VoIP calls.

The issue is the pixel/aosp dialer framework tries the apps first for emergency calls instead of going straight for cellular.

I say Pixel/AOSP because I’m not sure if it’s prevalent in AOSP since other Android phones have had the same issue but nowhere near the same scale.

that was incredible embarrassing. I remember it was the end of December, and they said "it won't be in the January update. Just wait until February"

I cannot imagine Apple doing that.

Apple also failed emergency call (with a eSIM situation) and took three month to fix in Japan (where iPhone takes half of market share). https://asahi-net.jp/en/news/20211105_01.html https://www.kobonemi.com/entry/2021/12/16/iPhone-%E6%8A%80%E...

Apple has had some equally frustrating and embarrassing misses in their time. No manufacturer is 100%.

"Was"? You mean "is". The issue is still ongoing for many people.
