It has literally been this way for decades, so the story isn't actually that. Wages are inelastic because the business want them to be. So the quote should be:

"CHEAP or FREE Labor demand still substantially exceeds the supply of available workers,"


Maybe 8-10 years ago saw someone commenting on a story in a fish wrap paper of note about the trouble a rail company was having hiring workers. The guys critic was to go an look at the companies jobs ads.

Rail engineer, several years of related experience in trains or big diesels and the like, requires constant travel, $18/hour.
