Perhaps it's because there are lots of old Googlers on HN who remember "the good old days where we weren't evil" and blame the changes on new management, while MS has been evil since its founding and the last few years under Nadella have actually been the least evil... though that's not a high bar, and looks to be changing currently.
This explanation makes sense, Nadella is a much better CEO than Ballmer. But I hope HN can hold Nadella accountable for Microsoft’s key decisions in the future instead of blaming MS as a faceless corporation because Nadella is the face of MS. And the decision to make Windows into an OS that spies on its users for the sake of increasing ad revenues is a decision that must have been made at the top.
